Gubns is a niche community and curated collection of items designed by those in architecture. We soft launched in December 2021 and have since been in beta stage testing and improving our platform. Thanks to our early members for their feedback and entrusting us with their work, we are ready to officially launch this summer!

Our proposal to host a pop-up at the London Festival of Architecture was accepted by the LFA committee who recognised the incredible work created by an under-represented community of architect-makers designing behind the scenes.

We’re here to serve as a platform for architect-makers, break the rigidity of architecture, celebrate brilliant work and inspire latent talents to come forth. Apply here to join our pop-up, and become an early member of Gubns.

What does this pop-up entail, and when is it?

Our pop-up invites a selection of architect-makers to showcase their work to the public, and have their items available for sale. We aim to represent 10-20 built environment professionals from around the world who have designed and produced exemplary work that merges disciplines including textiles, ceramics, metalworking, woodworking and more.

In addition to the pop-up, we will organise a panel talk comprising select architects to share their journey into making.

The pop-up will span 1-week from Friday, June 24th to Thursday, June 30th. The panel will be on Saturday, June 25th.

Where is it?

Cuemars—a wonderful conscious lifestyle shop in the heart of Shoreditch, London—has offered to be our venue.

📍 Cuemars
8 Dray Walk, E1
London, UK

Why should I join?

Not only will you be part of Gubns’ niche yet growing community—and receive the benefits of being a member—you’ll play an active role in the world’s largest annual architecture festival that attracts a vast public audience, well over 800,000 people in 2019, and a global media audience of millions.

It’s also an exciting time to be joining as one of our early members. We plan to coincide the official launch of Gubns during this pop-up, with marketing and press campaigns in motion.

In addition, we invite architect-makers to use our platform to showcase their work, gain feedback from the public, or even testbed prototypes or experiments with the audience.

Who is eligible, and how do I apply?

Gubns members are invited to participate since all items featured at the pop-up must also be available for sale on this website. Head to the ‘Join’ page and submit your application there, which will automatically be considered for the pop-up.

What can I submit?

Our criteria for submissions to the pop-up are exactly the same criteria we look for in new members, as stated in the Join page:

We curate considered, sophisticated works. We appreciate quality experiments, original items, and slow construction for slow consumption. Every item on Gubns is thoughtfully considered and in the company of excellence.

Generally, we look out for:

  • makers who have worked or studied in the field of architecture or related industries.

  • makers who are genuinely interested in being part of this designer/maker community.

  • products that are meticulously, thoughtfully and beautifully designed and made to 100% completion.

  • products with excellent photography, descriptions, and superior built quality.

  • products(s) that are for sale or made to order.

What are the deadlines?

The deadline to apply is Saturday, April 30th. We recommend submitting your application as early as possible, as reviews and curations are conducted on an ongoing basis.

Note that your inventory does not necessarily need be ready by this date. We simply need photos of your design in your application, and will follow-up with more details once approved. Accepted members will be announced in May.

All items that are to be for sale at the physical pop-up are due to be in London by Friday, June 10th. Unless your item is a one-off (there is only 1 original in stock), please be mindful of the quantity you would like to have in stock at the pop-up to ensure enough availability for 1 week.

Alternatively, if your item is large or sensitive, you may exhibit 1 copy at the pop-up and have the rest available for customers to order online.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions!

Any questions at all, please email me at hello@gubns.co or send a DM on instagram: @gubns.co.
